Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology
Founded in 1984, the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST) was mandated to promote science and technology among the youth. Its vision of developing a “science culture” leading to a productive Filipino citizenry is hoped to be realized primarily through its flagship program: the Philippine Science Centrum. With the inception of the Philippine Science Centrum, PFST received various awards and citations from private and government agencies. Receiving the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST’s) 1st GAWAD Lider Award for Innovation – Institution Category in 2008 solidifies PFST’s stature as a leading private institution in popularizing and instilling keen interest in science and technology in the country.
The Philippine Science Centrum, the first “hands-on” science museum-center in the country, was established on February 1, 1990 occupying the 5th level, Manila Film Center, Pasay City. It transferred to the UP Manila Campus some time after and now housed at the Riverbanks Center in Marikina since 2004.
By establishing the Philippine Science Centrum, PFST has provided a concrete model of the Interactive Learning System that it espouses. The PSC is a comprehensive educational program composed of various interactive science exhibit modules and write-ups, teacher activities, lessons and projects. The PSC is a venue for: Educational Field Trips (school, non-government organization, companies, etc.), special science-related activities, and family recreation.
